US Company Registration Experience Record
Stripe is a leading global online payment processing platform that provides infrastructure for businesses and individuals to receive online payments. As a domestic developer, most would choose Stripe to integrate payments into their websites, and applying for Stripe requires owning an overseas company (US, UK, or Hong Kong are all acceptable).
Below, I'll record the entire application process from my personal perspective.
US Company Registration
Why Choose a US Company
1️⃣ High Global Credibility: Suitable for SaaS, cross-border e-commerce, and other businesses 2️⃣ Supports Stripe/PayPal: More convenient for opening payment channels 3️⃣ Beneficial for Long-term Development: Suitable for overseas market business operations
Registration Process
I registered a US company through a Taobao agent, choosing Colorado, here's the process:
1️⃣ Registration Cost: About ¥1400 2️⃣ Processing Time: 1 business day 3️⃣ Documents Obtained: Company certificate, EIN (tax number), business address, etc. (all electronic files)
Bank Account Opening
Bank account opening was the most difficult part of the entire process. I was rejected by 5 banks, as many banks have tightened their policies and no longer accept account opening for companies registered through agents.
Finally, I temporarily chose the US virtual account solution provided by Payoneer.
Banks Attempted and Results
1️⃣ Chase Bank: Required US identity proof, unable to open account 2️⃣ Bank of America: Must visit US branch in person to open account 3️⃣ Mercury: Rejected after submitting materials, reason unclear 4️⃣ Wise: Rejected due to company registration location issues 5️⃣ First Century: High account opening threshold, complex procedures
Payoneer Account Opening Required Materials
1️⃣ ID or Passport 2️⃣ Domestic Savings Card (for fund withdrawal) 3️⃣ Phone Number (to receive verification codes, domestic number works) 4️⃣ Address Postal Code (for verification)
Applying for Stripe Account
With company credentials and bank account, applying for Stripe became relatively simple.
Application Steps
1️⃣ Visit Stripe Official Website to register account 2️⃣ Fill in basic company information 3️⃣ Provide company documents and bank account 4️⃣ Wait for approval
Important Notes
1️⃣ Prepare a website: I submitted my personal blog at the time, there seems to be no strict requirements for website type 2️⃣ Ensure website uses HTTPS (SSL certificate) 3️⃣ All materials must be authentic: Avoid account suspension due to falsification
Review Period
1️⃣ General review time: 1-5 business days (mine took about 3 days) 2️⃣ May need supplementary materials: Please pay attention to email notifications 3️⃣ After approval: You can integrate into your website and normally use Stripe for payments
Summary
The entire process took 1 week with a total cost of about ¥1400. Here are some personal insights:
1️⃣ Plan ahead: Understand requirements for each step, prepare materials in advance 2️⃣ Choose reliable service providers: Whether for company registration or account opening, choose agents with good reputation 3️⃣ Stay patient: Account opening and Stripe review may be rejected, try multiple times 4️⃣ Ensure compliance: All materials and business must be legal and compliant, avoid violations
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Do I need a US phone number? A1: It's more convenient to have one, but not necessary. I didn't provide one during my application.
Q2: Do I need to file taxes after company registration? A2: Yes, although I haven't filed yet, I recommend finding an agent to handle it as tax matters are complex.
Q3: Is Payoneer account safe? A3: Funds are custodied by US banks, relatively safe. But I recommend timely withdrawal to avoid keeping too much money for extended periods.
